EM Lewis - Playwright
EM Lewis is a playwright. Her work has been produced around the country. She won the 2009 Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award from the American Theater Critics Association for her play SONG OF EXTINCTION and the 2008 Primus Prize (for an emerging woman theater artist) for her Iraq War hostage drama HEADS. Her first full-length play, INFINITE BLACK SUITCASE, didn't win any awards, but she likes it anyway. Lewis is a member of Moving Arts Theater Company, the Dramatists Guild, the International Centre for Women Playwrights and the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights. She lives in Santa Monica, California now – but she is originally from Oregon.

American Critics Honor E.M. Lewis With Steinberg New Play Award
The American Theatre Critics Association has selected E.M. (Ellen) Lewis' Song of Extinction to receive the 2009 Harold and Mimi Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award. The announcement was made April 4 at Actors Theatre of Louisville during the Humana Festival of New American Plays, where critics converged for a special industry weekend. The award includes a plaque and a cash prize of $25,000 — the largest national award for a new play.

SONG Named Production of the Year at the LA Weekly Awards!
Moving Arts' production of SONG OF EXTINCTION at [Inside] the Ford has won LA Weekly Awards in two categories -- Production of the Year and Leading Male Performance (Darrell Kunitomi, as Khim Phan). The 30th annual LA Weekly Theater Awards were held at the El Rey Theater on the Miracle Mile on March 30th.

SONG Wins Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award!
The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle awarded the 2009 Ted Schmitt Award for the world premiere of an outstanding new play to EM Lewis for SONG OF EXTINCTION at the 40th Annual LADCC Awards ceremony, held on March 16 at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood.
